Pirelli was founded in Milan, Italy in 1872, by a brilliant engineer named Giovanni Battista Pirelli. It is the fifth largest manufacturer of tires in the world. It has a huge network of distributors and retailers all over the world. Initially Pirelli was known only for its rubber and the by-products. But as demand for company’s rubber and vulcanized by-products augmented the company thought to diversify the rage of products. Also, motor car’s intensification in popularity provided contracts for supply of rubber tubes and transmission belts.
Pirelli, in 1879, started the production of insulated telegraph cables and in not much time began the production of bicycle tires that was soon succeeded by the company’s first ever car tires in 1900. The company core operation remained manufacture of tires and transmission cables.
In 1980’s the acquisition of Metzeler, German manufacturer of motorcycle tires and Standard Telephone Cable, producers of transmission cables took Pirelli to greater heights. By acquiring Siemens, Metal Manufactures Ltd in 1998 and Draka Holding in 1999, Pirelli strengthened its position of supremacy. In 2005, the cable business was sold to Goldman Sachs and hence the new company was called Prymsian.
Pirelli in the same year opened its first tire manufacturing plant in China followed by first production plant in Romania and then the company went on expanding with great profit turn over. Pirelli with an experience of over 100 years in tire technology has established itself as a favorite of the masses. The products are known for reliability, durability, comfort and strength. Not just this, the products provide a great understanding of the performance of the vehicles.
RADIAL CARCASS CONSTRUCTION: The original technology helps the configuration of both front tire and rear tire to be accomplished with the help of a radial carcass and a single steel belt. The belt is wrapped around the carcass giving an angle near 0°.Using steel is advantageous since it not only provides high rigidity but also the varying stiffness.
RADIAL CROSS BELTED CONSTRUCTION: The major difference lies in the core structure that is radial in this case. It implies that the cables are wound radially around the tires. Hence, this can lead to production of low sector tires offering huge rewards in terms stability and performance.
BIAS BELTED CONSTRUCTION: The design comprises of a traditional carcass and a belt that consists of two or more than two cross layers. There is difference amongst carcass and the belt which is resolved by the aim of the structure designed and hence varied materials for the construction are then used. The belt is prepared of Aramide that aids in reducing the deformation that is caused by the centrifugal forces, whereas the carcass offers the stiffness and strength to the tires..
CROSS PLY CONSTRUCTION: Traditionally, it is also known as x-ply tire. The tire carcass is designed with the help of two or more than two cross layers depending on the speed and load.
In the tire sector, in addition to the traditional research and development work of the company aiming at new and best variety of products, more and more attention is paid to the reduction of the impact on the environment.
