Nitto tires is a subsidiary created by Toyo Tires in 1999, and Nitto was made to design and crate high performance tires for purchaser who need excellent handling and traction at high-speeds for their vehicle. Nitto is one of North America’s highest selling tire manufacturers, offering luxury and efficiency in their brand of high-end tires, which they still produce to this day.
Nitto tires aren’t for the average nine to five desk jockeys taking the freeway home everyday, but for those who’s vehicle spends just as much, if not more, time off the road as on it.
To understand the kind of quality that Nitto represents, you have to look at the parent company, Toyo tires –a Japanese zaibatsu nearly seventy years old, Toyo represents quality and performance worldwide, with various different operations spread out all over the world. The global market is the true test of Toyo’s quality and reputation, with locations in the Middle East, Europe, North and South America, and of course, Asia.
For nearly half a century, a lot of focus from Toyo has been on North America, and consequently, Toyo has received high marks consistently in the United States and Canada.
Toyo was created in 1945 as Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., and was in fact the first Japanese tire manufacturer to branch out to the United States, where they started storing and distributing tires for commercial trucks under the name “Toyo Tire” and in the mid-1970’s, Toyo began to market passenger tires as well.
It wasn’t until the 1980’s that Toyo Tire actually began to manufacture in the USA, at a plant in Illinois. Outsourcing to the USA was a strategic move that significantly helped Toyo to gain more profits, because products produced domestically aren’t subject to the import taxes that Japanese produced tires were. Not only was this a boon to the economy, providing jobs to unemployed Americans, it allowed Toyo to sell their tires for even cheaper, and still offer the same quality they always had. This also gave Americans faster access to the tires they needed, too; if a store needed a particular tire for you, they wouldn’t have to get it from Japan anymore. It took an oversea delivery down to a day or two ride, and this also made quality control that much easier to pursue.
Also in the 1980’s, Toyo acquired a fascination with high-speed motorsports, and began to design and distribute tires exactly for that use, from All-Terrain to All-Season, and with every speed rating imaginable. These tires have won countless races and different titles, making them a favorite among many racers, veteran and amateur alike.
Toyo stands for excellence; here and abroad, and any subsidiary company that comes from them is going to be a paragon of excellence and craftsmanship, as Nitto certainly proves itself time and time again. If drivers are looking for great racing tires that are made in the United States, then Nitto tires most certainly has the perfect tire for them somewhere.
