Nexen Tire is a Korean tire manufacturer that was created in 1942, and is recognized as history’s first Korean tire company, though then known as Heung-A Tire, Nexen didn’t actually start production of tires until 1956.

In the mid-1980’s, Nexen found itself growing thanks to the construction of a factory located in Yangsan, Korea, and Nexen expanded their research and development capabilities through an alliance forged with a Japanese rubber manufacturer. The company had gone under another name change and was known as Woosung until the turn of the century, in 2000, Woosung was dropped and Nexen was adopted, a merging of the words ‘next’ and ‘century’, a change that was as much goal oriented as philosophical – it marked a desire for Nexen to invest in up and coming technology and research data. The same year as the name change, Nexen found itself listed in the KOSPI market.

The greatest thing about Nexen tire is that they are committed to providing drivers with an awesome driving experience along with superior technology, and all at a super-low price. Even with import tax, many people are hard pressed to find tires cheaper than what Nexen Tire provides, and never of the same quality.

Nexen is not shy about their business plan and growth strategies; they bluntly state on their website that a factory closure in 2003 was due to market demand, and that unlike some companies who would climb further into debt by creating another factory to try and build product value, the Nexen board of directors were not scared to cut production to save money, which then went into research of high performance and ultra-high performance tires, with the buyer ultimately in mind. This proves that Nexen has a viable, long-term strategy; and is likely to be a big manufacturer for a long time, yet.

Amazingly, with the money that Nexen saved by shutting down a plant, they were awarded a patent for an extraordinary new silica tread compound in 2005. By 2006, the compound was already being implemented and lauded the world over. As demand sharply increased for these tires, 2007 saw the opening of a new manufacturing plant in Qingdao, China. The good thing about opening a factory in China is the fact that workers there are paid pennies a day to work with little to no safety regulations for 12-16 hour shifts, giving Nexen the maximum overhead. Annually, Nexen boasts sales of half a billion dollars, and their market shares have more than doubled in value over the past decade – an indicator of their emergence as a manufacturing powerhouse.

Overall, Nexen Tire represents commitment, high-quality products, and friendly customer service coupled with innovative engineering and technology. These tires are known for their heavy traction and grip – with many drivers still able to pull out of spin-outs with a set of Nexen’s (since these tires are so heavy on traction, many cars will skip the tires instead of spinning a wheel!) you can rest assured that even under the most dire of circumstances, drivers will still be afforded a minimal amount of control and stability.
