Continental Tires is an international company, based in Germany, committed to worldwide excellence; they provide tires, braking systems, engine injection systems, and other products for transport and passenger vehicles. Continental is the 4th largest producer of tires in the world, being edged out by only three other companies, all known globally.
Continental was established in 1871, giving them close to 150 years of excellence. At the time, they created rubber products for clients and also provided tires for bicycles and horse-drawn carriages. In close partnership with Bayer (world known as a pharmaceutical company carried out research testing on victims of the Holocaust) to produce a strong, vulcanized rubber compound in the early 1900’s. In the 20’s and 30’s, Continental worked out their tire making process fully, rounding out their style, and brokered mergers with giant German rubber manufacturers, taking them under Continental’s wing.
With talent and technology on their side, Continental won a slew of races in the early 20th century, in such rugged places as North Africa, and the vicious slopes and turns of Italy. Showing the true roadworthiness of these tires, these victories earned the company worldwide acclaim, propelling them to become a super corporation, worth billions upon billions of dollars today. Sadly, the Continental company would know wartime destruction, two plants in Korbach and Hanover, Germany are destroyed by vicious WWII blitzkriegs, shattered and destroyed to the very foundations, in 1945; though the company was quickly allowed to rebuild and continue manufacturing goods. Continental helped stable a spiraling post-WWII German economy, giving them the country the stability it needed to get back on its feet.
Known as Conti by employees, Continental also has a line of tires for motorcycles, as well as for bicycles. This German owned manufacturer is known to be an ardent innovator in the field of Fuel Consumption reduction; a combination of technologies between injection systems, propulsion systems, and engineered tires which lead to an overall decline in fuel usage, allowing drivers to get the most mpg’s out of their car, whatever it may be. Continental was also the first company to design and manufacture air springs for large buses and trucks, and to mass produce the tubeless tire!
Recently, Continental has been bought out by a group of banks and an auto-parts manufacturer for close to $20 billion. This led to a few angry resignations within the company, but nothing has happened to reduce the company’s quality of products they still offer, though Continental has drastically cut US production and shut down factories on the eastern seaboard, and cut retiree care for it’s employees as well, much to many employee’s dismay.
Through all of the setbacks in recent years, Continental is still a company that you can trust; they produce many auto parts and technologies, and have been around for close to a century and a half. This impressive resume backs up any claims the company might make, because with that much research and data, the amount of knowledge they have is huge.
